State Senator John Laird and Assemblymembers Dawn Addis and Gail Pellerin briefed us on what is happening in Sacramento with a focus on current legislation of interest to Santa Cruz County.
AI: Uses and Abuses
The Democratic Women’s Club of Santa Cruz County’s April forum looked at the growing impact of AI in our society. Topics include pending legislation related to AI and elections, the basics of AI and how it works as a language-learning tool, and issues at the intersection of AI/technology and human rights.
Democracy at Risk: The 2024 Presidential Election
This forum focused on the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election. This may be the most significant Presidential election of our lifetime as the future of American Democracy balances on a razor’s edge. Swing Left and Indivisible Santa Cruz County provided information on opportunities for community to engage in phone banks, email campaigns, precinct operations, and other support in swing states.

GUN VIOLENCE AND REGULATIONS 9/30/23
Speaker Faris Sabbah, SC County Superintendent of Schools, who addressed what is being done to keep children safe in our schools. Peter Ambler, Executive Director of Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, gave an update on gun regulation efforts around the United States. He cofounded Courage to Fight Gun Violence, with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Captain Mark Kelly.
