AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY: REAL OPPORTUNITIES

For National Affordable Housing Month the DWC is celebrated by spotlighting Affordable Housing in Santa Cruz County during its May program. Two dynamic speakers highlighted the work that is being done in both the City of Santa Cruz and the County of Santa Cruz. Bonnie Lipscomb, the City of Santa Cruz Economic Development Director, and Julie Conway, the Santa Cruz County Housing Manager spoke about their current work in the housing world and some of the challenges they face. We heard about the impact that state policy is having on implementing programs locally and some great opportunities that we have with the passing of Propositions 1 and 2.

Guy Preston, Executive Director of the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission and Alex Clifford, Chief Executive Officer of Santa Cruz Metro spoke about County planning and funding for local transportation. The RTC is charged with developing plans for the safe and efficient movement of every mode of transportation, including cars, bicycles, pedestrians, trains, and buses. The objective is to produce sustainable transportation plans that address fiscal, climate change, and other environmental concerns.
